Head of Creative/A&R/Sync - SMV Schacht Musikverlag
Jutta Baechner, Head of Creative/A&R/Sync Manager at Schacht Musikverlage (SMV), started in the music industry in 1989, setting up a PR department, as well as label support for the record distribution company Semaphore in Nuremberg. (Epitaph, Shimmy Disc, Flying Nun Records, Sub-Pop, Community 3, Resonance, Hangman Rec., SST Records, Roir Records, KK Records, etc.).
Klaus Maeck, one of the managing directors of Freibank Musikverlage at the time, brought her to Hamburg in early 1993. There she worked for several years as head of the PR department and as A&R / Dance for Freibank and Play It Again Sam.
Afterwards she moved to PIAS, where she was responsible for the dance department and played a major role in the development of PIAS Germany.
Among others she founded the 12" label Utah Records (Steve Bug, Dj Cle', S.B. Entertainment, etc.) and the label KIFF sm (Kreidler, Pole, Drome, The Righteous Men etc.) and worked with labels like: F-Communication, Nuphonic, Wall Of Sound, Novamute, Soma, Different Recordings, Radikal Fear, Disques Solid, Grand Central Records, Nettwerk, Beggars Banquet, Superstition, etc..
Artists such as: Goldie, Roni Size, Dj Krust, Nicolette, Spiritualized, Grooverider, Marc Almond, Felix Da Housecat, Richie Hawtin, Soulwax, St.Germain, Philippe Zdar, Etienne De Crecy, Soulwax, Propellerheads, Laurent Garnier, Mr. Oizo, Rae & Christian, Faze Action, Zoot Woman, Les Rythmes Digitalles, Slam, MC 900 Ft Jesus, Speedy J, Jurassic 5, Transglobal Underground, Der Tobi & Das Bo, Ian Pooley, Bernd Friedmann, The Young Gods, Front 242, Meat Beat Manifesto, Magnapop, Legendary Pink Dots, Pixies, Trisomie 21, Zero 7, The Shamen, etc.
She has now been active for the Hamburg-based publishing company SMV Schacht Musikverlage since 1999. In addition to her SMV publishing work, she was responsible for PR, marketing and publishing support for !K7 Records and Rapster Records for the first few years. (K&D, Ursula Rucker, Matthew Herbert, Vikter Duplaix, Smith&Mighty, Earl Zinger, Stereo MCs, Tiga, Funkstörung, Shantel, A Guy Called Gerald, Jazzy Jeff, Princess Superstar, Terranova, Playgroup, Nightmares On Wax, Thievery Corporation, Kemistry & Storm, etc.).
She also ran her label Wonder Records in parallel with artists such as Kreidler, The Modernist , Bohren & Der Club of Gore, Fehlfarben, Enik, Christian Harder and Jim Avignon.
Hamburg-based Schacht Musik Verlage (SMV) has been in existence since 1961, and the SMV catalog includes popular current artists as well as now legendary compositions from decades past. Authors like Bert Kaempfert, Peter Thomas ("Edgar Wallace", Jerry Cotton movies"), Martin Boettcher ("Winnetou"), Carl Douglas ("Kung Fu Fighting"), Marius Müller-Westernhagen, Udo Lindenberg, Heinz Rudolf Kunze, Accept, Neu!, Guru Guru, Klaus Schulze, Novalis etc. once laid the foundation of the Hanseatic publishing house.
