Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba
Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba is a German music manager. Hailing from Frankfurt (born October 19th, 1973) he started his career in the late 1990s as a journalist in music and culture at city magazine FRIZZ. In addition to managing their music team, from 1999 to 2008 Mushatsi-Kareba also served as music contributor at multinational news agency The Associated Press (AP). In September 2002 the manager joined T-Online International AG, at the time a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, to conceive, develop and lead their efforts in creating a digital music service. The latter then became Musicload, the vertical brand which quickly spearheaded the music portfolio of Deutsche Telekom. In the spring of 2005 Mushatsi-Kareba turned to streaming, and joined Napster as a Director helping them to launch on the German market later that year. He subsequently got his responsibilities extended from Germany to Switzerland and then to Italy. After helping to establish Napster in various European markets, in the summer of 2008 he answered a call from Apple to run their iTunes (and from 2015 also Apple Music) business. He first oversaw the markets in Germany and Austria for the Cupertino-based company, then also the markets in Italy, Switzerland and PAN-EU. After several years on the platform side 2016 he switched to the recording side by joining Universal Music in Berlin where he was appointed General Manager Marketing & Digital. Mushatsi-Kareba, who holds a degree in Political Science from Frankfurt's Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University, was named CEO of Sony Music Entertainment in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in January 2018 - holding this position until September 2024.
